SEMCORP Showcases at EES Europe 2026: Technological Innovation and Local Expertise Empower Europe’s Next Chapter in Energy Storage

Recently, EES Europe 2026 officially opened in Munich, Germany. SEMCORP showcased its comprehensive energy storage separator solutions, dedicated separators for sodium-ion batteries, solid-state electrolyte membranes and other key technological innovations, presenting a full range of innovative material solutions tailored to the European market.

Energy Storage Separators: Precisely Addressing Three Major Application Scenarios with High Safety, High Capacity and Long Cycle Life

The energy storage market is undergoing a profound transition from “storage for capacity” to “storage for utilization.” The evolution of energy storage cells toward capacities of 500Ah+ and even 600Ah+ has become a clear industry trend. However, as the capacity of individual cells increases, requirements for manufacturing consistency become more stringent, while safety risks also increase. As the final safety barrier within a battery cell, the separator’s heat resistance, puncture resistance and cycle stability directly determine the safety margin and economic lifespan of an energy storage system.

To address the three major application scenarios of utility-scale energy storage, commercial and industrial energy storage, and residential energy storage, SEMCORP showcased differentiated separator solutions at the exhibition.

Based on ultra-thin 5/7/9 μm separator substrates, these products incorporate CCS (ceramic coating), CCS+PCS (ceramic and polymer multilayer coating) and PMMA hybrid coating technologies, achieving simultaneous improvements in puncture strength, heat resistance and bonding strength.

Given the characteristics of the European market—including the dominance of residential energy storage, battery performance degradation caused by low temperatures in Northern Europe, and users’ widespread demand for an ultra-long cycle life of 15 to 20 years—SEMCORP also introduced dedicated separators for sodium-ion batteries designed to perform in low-temperature environments, as well as a long-cycle-life separator series designed to slow aging and reduce the levelized cost of electricity (LCOE) of energy storage systems.

Together with the three application-specific solution portfolios, these products provide a coordinated response to the differentiated needs of the European market.

In terms of safety performance, SEMCORP’s dedicated energy storage separators can effectively prevent the propagation of thermal runaway by increasing the puncture temperature and optimizing thermal shrinkage performance, thereby building a robust safety barrier for energy storage systems.

SEMCORP’s current R&D roadmap continues to advance toward higher puncture temperatures, flame-retardant performance and thinner separators, preparing key technologies for the next generation of energy storage cells.

Next-Generation Battery Technologies: Accelerating the Commercialization of Sodium-Ion Batteries and Advancing Solid-State Battery Development

At this exhibition, SEMCORP showcased two key achievements in next-generation battery technologies in the European market for the first time, with its dedicated sodium-ion battery separator attracting particular attention due to its strong compatibility with energy storage applications.

The new-generation dedicated separator for sodium-ion batteries responds to the accelerating commercialization of sodium-ion battery technology. As leading battery manufacturers approach mass production of sodium-ion batteries, separator compatibility has emerged as a new challenge for the industry.

SEMCORP’s new-generation dedicated sodium-ion battery separator adopts a “rigid support + flexible cushioning” design concept and has been specifically optimized for the characteristics of sodium-ion battery systems.

In compression tests, the product demonstrated a significant advantage over mass-produced separators in terms of thickness deformation tolerance, while its electrolyte retention rate increased by more than 40%. The product provides critical material support for the large-scale application of sodium-ion batteries in energy storage.

Also showcased at the exhibition was SEMCORP’s composite-framework-supported electrolyte membrane, the world’s first 20 μm sulfide solid-state electrolyte membrane capable of production at mass-production scale.

The product adopts a synergistic technology combining a composite flexible framework with rigid nanoparticles and ultra-thin coating, significantly improving tensile strength, bending depth and ionic conductivity compared with conventional products.

Localization in Europe: Establishing an End-to-End Ecosystem from Manufacturing to Services

Supply chain localization is at the core of SEMCORP’s European strategy.

Located in Debrecen, the heart of Europe’s battery industry, the SEMCORP Hungary plant covers 19 hectares and is SEMCORP’s first overseas production base. Phase I is already operational and has begun supplying customers steadily, accelerating the development of SEMCORP’s localized supply and service capabilities in Europe.

The Hungary plant has not only localized production capacity, but has also established a local quality control team covering the entire process, from incoming materials and in-process inspection to final product inspection. In addition, local application engineers and after-sales service teams enable same-day technical response.

Localized production and logistics have shortened delivery lead times from 6–8 weeks from Asia to just 1–2 weeks within Europe. This also effectively mitigates risks associated with shipping delays, tariff fluctuations and geopolitical uncertainty, while supporting compliance with EU battery regulations.

In terms of intellectual property protection, SEMCORP has established extensive technical cooperation with global industry leaders and continues to strengthen its patent portfolio. As of the end of 2025, SEMCORP had obtained 725 valid patents, including 46 international patents, providing a solid foundation for long-term compliant operations in the European market.

EES Europe 2026 was more than a comprehensive showcase of SEMCORP’s technological capabilities. It also marked the company’s global expansion journey from “taking products overseas” to “taking an integrated system overseas.”

From lithium-ion batteries to sodium-ion batteries, SEMCORP continues to push the boundaries of separator technology to enhance energy storage efficiency and safety. Meanwhile, the localized operation of its Hungary plant is turning the vision of “global technology, European delivery” into reality.
