Recently, the SEMCORP Group Technology Innovation Forum was held in Yuxi, Yunnan. Under the theme of "Accumulation for Breakthrough New Ground in Separator Technology," the forum brought together over 200 industry experts and corporate guests from government, industry, academia, research institutes, and application sectors. Participants witnessed the global debut of SEMCORP Group's 5μm ultra-thin, high-strength product and gained deeper insights into the company's technological achievements and latest business developments through on-site production line visits. 



Tan Wei, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Yuxi Municipal Committee and Executive Vice Mayor of Yuxi, delivered a speech and fully affirmed SEMCORP's long-term high-quality development. He stated that as a leader in Yuxi's core new energy industry track, SEMCORP has achieved a leap from regional to global influence. Yuxi has always been driven by an internal motivation to break conventions and explore forward, resonating with SEMCORP's innovative gene. Together, they have created a model of rooting locally and building enduring enterprises. The Yuxi Municipal Party Committee and the municipal government will always serve as supporters and escorts, working with SEMCORP through more practical measures and a better ecosystem to face the global market and jointly create the future of the new energy industry.

Another Breakthrough in Separator Technology:

Global Debut of 5μm Ultra-Thin, High-Strength Platform-Based Product



During the forum, SEMCORP launched its 5μm ultra-thin, high-strength platform-based product. Dr. Peng Kun, Deputy Director of the Product Development Center, provided an in-depth explanation of the technical core and application prospects of this breakthrough product. The product overcomes the technical bottleneck of "thinness equaling fragility," achieving a perfect balance among thickness, strength, and ionic permeability for 5μm separators. It breaks the long-standing "impossible triangle" in the industry, reshaping the performance boundaries of lithium battery separators. 


According to Dr. Peng Kun, the 5μm ultra-thin, high-strength platform-based product boasts a puncture strength of up to 560gf. Compared to 7µm separators, the puncture strength increased by 16.7%, while the thickness reduced by 28.5% (under the same puncture strength conditions). Additionally, the internal resistance of the separator decreased by 20.9%.

Currently, SEMCORP Group's 5μm ultra-thin, high-strength separator has achieved mass production. Wang Haiping, General Manager of SEMCORP Yuxi, elaborated on the production supply capacity and quality innovation practices of the Yuxi base. As a dedicated production line cluster for the 5μm ultra-thin, high-strength separator, the Yuxi base was designed and constructed according to the standards of a "lighthouse factory." It features digitalized, automated, and modular production lines, which not only reduce manual intervention in key processes, ensuring superior product quality from the source, but also enable real-time data monitoring and optimization through the deployment of digital systems such as MES, ERP, PLM, and AI algorithms. Meanwhile, the Yuxi base has established a global supply assurance system through capacity locking, raw material tracing, and agile delivery. It has also implemented a "four-in-one" quality control system covering raw material management, semi-finished product quality control, finished product quality control, and outbound inspection, ensuring "zero-defect" product delivery.

Seizing Next-Generation Battery Technology


Ten-Ton-Level Solid Electrolyte Production Line Fully Operational

Amid the vigorous development of the global new energy industry, solid-state batteries have become a core direction for next-generation battery technology due to their advantages of high energy density, high safety, and long cycle life. 


At the forum, Professor Lu Yang, Distinguished Professor at the School of Metallurgy and Environment, Central South University, introduced the current technological route of solid-state batteries and provided a comprehensive explanation of the development, application, and future directions of solid electrolytes. He noted that sulfide solid-state batteries attract the highest attention, with low-cost lithium sulfide, large-scale electrolyte, and device-based applications being the three key drivers for the engineering of sulfide solid electrolytes. In the future, industry-academia-research collaboration could facilitate technological breakthroughs and industrial strategic deployment, achieving high-quality development of the sulfide solid electrolyte industry.

From innovative breakthroughs in the laboratory to key leaps in industrialization, solid-state battery technology is facing unprecedented opportunities. SEMCORP has already made forward-looking deployments. 

Xu Bin, General Manager of SEMCORP Hunan, comprehensively introduced SEMCORP's industrial progress in sulfides. According to Xu, by the virtue of its R&D capabilities for technological iteration, SEMCORP remains firmly in the industry's first tier while continuously advancing the entire industry's development. SEMCORP's advantages mainly include: deep industry-academia-research interactions strengthening foundational technological capabilities, mechanisms ensuring customer-centric rapid response capabilities, and strong engineering experience shaping extremely efficient lean manufacturing capabilities. Meanwhile, Xu Bin also introduced SEMCORP's product roadmap for high-purity lithium sulfide, sulfide solid electrolytes, and sulfide solid electrolyte membranes. 


Currently, SEMCORP's ten-ton-level solid electrolyte material production line is fully operational, achieving full-chain "vertical innovation" from core raw materials to electrolyte membranes, and horizontal deployment from mass production processes to cutting-edge technologies. In the future, SEMCORP will expand related capacity construction according to market demand and achieve the "triple jump" development goal from R&D (small-size test) – medium-size test - mass production.
